Introduction

Welcome to the first anniversary issue of The Red Penny Papers. In it, we welcome back some old friends, and bring in many new ones. In the latter camp, we have S.J. Hirons with a gently dark trip to the historical-fantastic, Ash Krafton using a musician’s voice to tap into subconscious horror, robo-steampunk in all its Victorianized glory from Mark Rossmore, and a subtly horrific delicacy from Sara Kate Ellis that’s sure to leave its mark. Returning to us are William Vitka, who featured in our Winter 2010 issue and comes back at us with some kick-ass near future god-killing pulp, and Courtney Bernard, illustrator extraordinaire, whose cover image is based on Vitka’s story.

Now that is one cute squid.
